.dwg Design Services Corp. was started as a tool and die, special machine & fixture design business on August 1, 2001 by Wm. Dirk Rader & Gary Akin.  The two worked together for several years at a local tool & die shop called Hartup Tool, Inc (HTI) and desired to continue working together as a team to help meet the challenges of a very tough time in the industry.

By Mid-October of 2001, the business had grown to the point that they were able to keep step with their original plan and bring on their third partner, Dwayne Back, also from HTI.  With the added design capacity, they now had the resources to provide design & engineering services on larger projects.  In a very short period of time they were awarded a large metal-stamping die design project for General Electric.  This was a project to design a series of stamping dies to produce cook-tops for several different models of electric ranges.   In October 2002, .dwg hired on their fourth employee and expanded their capabilities even more.

Up to this point, .dwg had primarily been providing 2-Dimensional (2D) die designs using AutoCAD.  By January of 2004, they made the decision to purchase a leading-edge software program specifically designed for doing Progressive Die Designs in a 3D Solid Model environment.

“We are very confident that we have a very bright future ahead of us; one that will continue to bring us opportunities to expand and grow our business...and one that will continue to benefit the communities we are in by providing good employment opportunities.”

–Dirk Rader, Owner

Over the next several months they worked their way through the learning curve and a subsequent droop in sales, an arduous task that made them question their decision to convert.  After positive feedback from customers, they realized they were on the right track.  Unlike many businesses are able to do; they recognized this was an investment in the development and future success of their company.
