May Edition 2007

Downtown Brings Spring & Midwest Art

The first Art Walk of 2007 in downtown Columbus is planned for Friday, May 4 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Area residents are invited to stroll along downtown streets, visit businesses and restaurants, and enjoy art by Midwest artists.

Baker’s Fine Gifts will unveil spring selections for every occasion – from gift giving to sprucing-up your home. Cooks & Company is anxious to show-off their newly remodeled cafe section and will offer delectables from their kitchen.

The Columbus Area Arts Council’s Artscape Gallery in The Commons will be open for visitors. The current exhibition is Art at Work:  Enhancing Creativity in the Workplace. The artwork in this exhibit is on loan from six local businesses-Elwood Staffing, Irwin Union Bank, Force Design, Inc., Kirr, Marbach & Company, Voelz Body Shop, Inc., and Tecumseh Capitol Partners. Businesses were asked to participate because of their philosophy that original art plays an important role in the workplace. Laurie Wright, Brian Bailey, Marilyn Brackney, David Williams, Gretchen Sigmund and Bobbie K Owens of Columbus are among the artists featured in the exhibit. Indianapolis artist John Domont is also included.

The Columbus Area Visitors Center will feature works by local jewelry artists Evan Knox, Fredricka Joyner, Peggy Balmer, Lori Henderson, and Rachel Johnson of Solerella Silver Design. Their works include lampwork beads, jewelry comprised of found objects, silversmithing, and free-form, organic designs with pearls and semi- and precious stones.

Gallery 423 will highlight examples of contemporary works at the opening of their spring exhibition Brown County Modern. Brown County artists Peggy Brown, Dixie Ferrer, Chris Gustin, Joe and Peggy Henderson, Marilyn Kerns, Daren Redman, Patricia Rhoden Bartels, Anne Ryan Miller, Greg Schatz and Ron Schuster will be featured working in a variety of media.

Tamera Pauli is in the process of moving her day spa One Body One Soul to downtown – 431 Sixth Street. The space will be open for a sneak preview and Brown County artist Sharon Jungclaus-Gould will conduct an interactive expressive arts activity.

Stillframes Photography will present oil painter Bahran Moshiri. A retired heart surgeon, his subjects include horses and idyllic country scenes.

Bistro 310 will display works by Brown County photographer Susan Showalter as well as a special menu created by Chef Jeff Maiani. Susan turned to the camera to convey her feelings about the environment to others.

Tre Bicchieri will feature Brown County impressionist painter Elizabeth O’Rear; Nick Woolls who works in pastels & watercolor; Mike Briner, a landscape photographer; photographer Mat Gobert; Karen Pinsonneault, who works in mixed media; and oil painter Sara Cataline.
