March Edition 2007

The Finance Academy Opens Downtown Location

The Finance Academy from East High School’s C4 program is bringing educational activities to the Yes Cinema!  Students taking business classes will be showing up for class from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm daily at the Commons Mall.

Starting with a charge from the Downtown Vision 20/20 Committee, C4 Columbus Area Career Connection with assistance and encouragement from the Education Sub-Committee, the Finance Academy has a new location.

We hope this pilot program has benefits for both downtown Columbus and to those students participating in this innovative idea.  This program will foster an environment where students experience individualized learning integrated with opportunities to explore personal business career interests.  Strategies for learning will include group projects, field trips, guest speakers and job shadowing opportunities.  While students benefit from “hand-on” instruction, our hope is that this partnership between downtown Columbus and C4 will act as a catalyst for further private sector investment in downtown.

Courses being taught this semester will be Securities & Insurance and Banking & Credit.  If your business could provide a guest lecturer, job shadowing opportunities, tours for this pilot program or has a small project that students could complete, please contact Diane Smith - Business teacher at smithdi@bcsc.k12.in.us
