Mayor Bart Peterson is the keynote speaker for the
Columbus Area Arts Council’s Annual Meeting on Thursday,
March 8 at 4pm in The Commons.
Part of the Arts Council’s primary
purpose is to promote Columbus as a regional arts center
and to market the arts as an economic development effort.
Since taking
office in 2000, enhancing the arts and culture in
Indianapolis has been one of Mayor Peterson's key
priorities. The theme of Mayor Peterson’s remarks in
Columbus will be “The Power of the Arts” and about the
positive impact that arts can have on a community, both
socially and economically.
Columbus Mayor Fred Armstrong
commented on the importance of the arts in his State of
the City address on February 6, “Exposure to the arts
improves the quality of our lives, and businesses that
locate to any new city consistently cite cultural
resources as one of the foremost criteria when deciding
where to move.”
The public is invited to attend the
Arts Council’s annual meeting and to meet Mayor Peterson
and enjoy refreshments immediately following his
presentation.
The Columbus Area Arts Council is a
private, not-for-profit corporation supported by private
donations, the City of Columbus, the State of Indiana
through the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National
Endowment for the Arts.
