From the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center
National Network.
A Corporate Volunteer Council is a local network of
businesses that come
together to share effective practices, coordinate
community service events
and/or work in other ways to address community needs
through workplace
volunteering. They are also known as Business Volunteer
Councils (BVC's).
Today’s companies are increasingly seeking ways to
collaborate with other
companies in addition to engaging their own employees and
retirees through
volunteering.
The Value of Corporate Volunteer Councils Sponsoring
Agencies like a Volunteer Center or local Chamber of
Commerce benefit from BVC’s by building closer working
relationships with companies interested in an active
approach to corporate citizenship. Sponsoring agencies
also benefit from the increased
visibility and positive image generated by supporting
business engagement in community service efforts.
Member companies gain community visibility through BVC’s
and are seen
as a leader in employee volunteering. BVC’s help build the
skills
and knowledge of employee volunteer program managers which
enable
companies to have more effective community service
programs.
The Community benefits from BVC’s when more companies have
employee
volunteer programs and the increased number of volunteers
to address
community needs. In addition, the partnership of companies
working
together with area nonprofits assures for
well-coordinated, targeted,
and effective volunteer initiatives. BVC’s can also
sponsor
community service events that utilize BVC business members
and their
employees. |
