Record Attendance at
Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting
|
On Thursday, January 18th, the Columbus Area Chamber of
Commerce held its 98th Annual meeting with keynote
presentation by best selling author, Dr. Richard Florida.
There were over 460 business and community leaders in
attendance. One of the world’s leading social theorists
and public intellectuals, he believes that human
creativity is the engine of economic growth. Dr. Richard
Florida discussed human creativity and how our economic
growth and success is directly tied to the development of
human capabilities.
The Chamber of Commerce unveiled their strategic goals for
2007. The main focus of the Chamber’s 2007 program of work
is to attempt to build a “pocket of greatness” by:
• Creating a “Plug and Play” Welcoming Community
• Building on the Power of Place
• Unleashing Value through Collaboration
• Attracting, developing and retaining young talent
• Becoming high-tech and knowledge intense
• Fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation
The Chamber of Commerce also recognized individuals and
projects that have made a tremendous impact on the
community. Awards and the winners include The Perseverance
Award received by Brands Inc., The Community Service Award
received by Tom Vujovich, The Community Initiative Award
received by Columbus in Bloom, Jim Dietz, The ATHENA Award
received by Tracy Souza, and The Edna V. Folger Award
received by Denise Briner-Richardson
The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce engages its members
in the pursuit of excellence and economic growth by
fostering an innovative business environment and a
world-class community.
