Bestselling Author Dan Pink to Keynote Chamber’s 99th
Annual Meeting |
COLUMBUS, INDIANA—The
Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce announced that
nationally-recognized author and speaker Dan Pink will
address the business community at the forthcoming annual
meeting which will be held at 11:30 on Wednesday, January
30th, 2008.
The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce Annual meeting is
one of the community’s largest business events held each
year in January. The event sets the tone and spirit of the
Chamber’s Program of Work for the remainder of the year.
This year is of particular importance as the Chamber will
be celebrating its 100th Anniversary.
This year’s theme will build upon last year’s keynote
presentation from Dr. Richard Florida who is an expert of
the social implications on the “Rise of the Creative
Class” and what cities can do to attract talent and
creative capital. This year’s keynote address will be
delivered by bestselling author and speaker Dan Pink.
Pink’s latest book, A Whole New Mind, charts the rise of
right-brain thinking in modern economies and explains the
six abilities individuals and organizations must master in
an outsourced and automated world.
Pink’s keynote address will focus on the shift from the
information age to the conceptual age where he will
demonstrate the importance of high-touch, high-concept
occupations to the future of the U.S. as well as the
implications for educational reform and management
processes within your own business.
Reviewers have described the book as "an audacious and
powerful work," "a profound read," "right on the money,"
and "a miracle." A Whole New Mind is a New York Times,
Washington Post, and BusinessWeek bestseller—and has been
translated into 12 languages.
Dan's first book, Free Agent Nation, about the growing
ranks of people who work for themselves, was a Washington
Post nonfiction bestseller and business bestseller in the
U.S. and Canada. Publishers Weekly says the book "has
become a cornerstone of employee-management relations."
A popular speaker, Dan lectures to corporations,
associations, and universities around the world. He's
provided analysis on dozens of television and radio
broadcasts—including CNBC's "Power Lunch," ABC's "World
News Tonight," NPR's "Morning Edition," and American
Public Media's "Marketplace." And as an independent
business consultant, he's advised start-up ventures and
Fortune 100 companies on recruiting, business trends, and
work practices.
A free agent himself, Dan held his last real job in the
White House, where he served from 1995 to 1997 as chief
speechwriter to Vice President Al Gore. He's also worked
as an aide to U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich, an
economic policy staffer in the U.S. Senate, a legal
researcher in India, and a latrine builder in Botswana.
In addition to the keynote presentation, the Chamber
bestows some of its most prestigious awards at this event
including the Edna V. Folger Teacher of the Year Award,
the Athena Award (given to a women for professional
excellence), the Business of the Year Award, the Project
of the Year Award, and the Community Service Award. |
